Sadly, as you read the tragic story of Samson, you never read about a true friend. Apparently, Samson had no real friends. Everyone needs friends, peer friends. Many of the recurring problems of life are mitigated and sometimes overcome with the help of discerning, caring friends. When a man and especially a strong man removes these influences from his life, rough edges tend to abound. Strong men already tend to feel misunderstood and maligned. Without peer friendships it is easy for strong men to feel peerless. This becomes an excuse for bad behavior and poor decisions. Peer friendships of a godly sort help us all, but especially those with significant giftings.
